Salary: USD 182,000 - 214,000 / annual
Atoms is building Physical AI—real-world robots for industries including food, mining, and transport. The company integrates hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate to deploy and operate autonomous systems at scale.
As Building Design Manager, you will own the building design process across multiple concurrent Atoms projects in the New York region, from test-fit and schematic design through construction documentation. You will manage the Architects and Engineers of Record (AEOR) who deliver each project, working closely with Structural Engineering, Construction, and Acquisitions teams to ensure every facility is designed on-brand, on-prototype, and ready to build quickly across markets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the building design process with internal and external stakeholders from concept through delivery of buildable designs
- Managing AEOR relationships, scope, and performance across multiple concurrent projects
- Leading test-fitting and schematic modeling and drawing for new sites
- Coordinating advanced building systems across design disciplines to maintain technical alignment
- Coordinating architectural/engineering due diligence during site acquisition and feasibility studies
- Identifying and documenting regional design standards and prototype variations
- Managing the consultant selection, scoping, and performance tracking process
- Performing QA/QC of internal design documentation and reviewing AEOR drawing sets for prototype compliance and design efficiency
- Coordinating project aesthetics, signage, and brand intent to maintain design consistency
- Conducting site observation and punch-list review through project completion
- Identifying project risks early in the design process to prevent costly issues
This role is based in the New York office with five-day-per-week onsite work required.
Requirements:
- 7–10 years of relevant work experience in architecture, building design, or building design management
- 5–7 years of domain experience specifically in building/architectural design management
- Bachelor's degree preferred (architecture, design, or related field)
- Demonstrated experience managing AEOR/consultant relationships and multi-project design pipelines
- Hands-on experience with test-fit and schematic modeling/drawing
- Experience coordinating advanced building systems and design QA/QC across disciplines
