Alamar Biosciences is seeking a Bioprocess/Automation Engineer II to develop, scale, and sustain automated workflows across R&D and production environments. The role bridges biology, engineering, and software to advance the company's ArgoHT® proteomics platform, which enables high-sensitivity, multiplexed protein biomarker detection from liquid samples.
Key responsibilities include partnering cross-functionally with assay development, automation, manufacturing, and software teams to deliver end-to-end chemical and biological workflows. You will contribute to R&D of complex automated biological workflows on the ArgoHT system, develop and own automation engineering projects on liquid handling platforms (Hamilton, OpenTron, Bravo, or similar) from concept through release and sustaining, and develop maintainable automation/process code in Python, C#, or similar languages with emphasis on modularity and traceability.
Additional duties include transferring developed processes to R&D and manufacturing teams with comprehensive documentation (feasibility data, V&V runs, troubleshooting guides, SOPs), and designing and running experiments utilizing modern biological assays and automation techniques (NGS, PCR/qPCR, proteomics, immunoassays).
Required qualifications: BS/MS in Engineering (Chemical, Bio, Electrical, Mechanical, or related) with 4+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent practical experience. Demonstrated experience balancing exploratory R&D work on novel platforms with ownership of established workflows on third-party liquid handlers. Proficiency in scripting (Python, C#, Java) with fundamentals of at least one core language and willingness to expand skills. Proven ability to debug complex systems spanning fluidics, robotics, software, and assay chemistry. Experience with liquid handling automation platforms, preferably Hamilton STAR or equivalent (Tecan, OpenTron, Bravo).
