Cradle is an AI-guided protein discovery and optimization platform used by clients across biopharma, biotech, agri-tech, food-tech, and academia. The company employs nearly 100 people with offices in Amsterdam, Boston, and Zurich, plus remote colleagues, and has multi-year funding runway.
As a Backend Software Engineer, you will design and develop a service-oriented, decoupled web application that exposes advanced machine learning models to scientific end users. Key responsibilities include:
- Architecting data manipulation and storage systems with consideration for efficient representation of protein sequences, metadata, and ML model predictions
- Designing APIs for interacting with machine learning models, including versioning strategies
- Collaborating cross-functionally with biologists, ML experts, and scientists to understand domain requirements and constraints
You should be a fast learner capable of rapidly absorbing new programming languages, ML algorithms, and biological concepts. Experience developing backend systems in modern cloud environments is expected, along with strong Python proficiency and familiarity with database architecture and data warehouses. The ideal candidate is action-oriented, derives satisfaction from shipping work, and is a strong team player and communicator who contributes to a positive working environment.
