Outset is an AI-powered user research platform used by global enterprises like HubSpot, Microsoft, Uber, and Nestle to conduct qualitative research at scale. The company recently raised a $30M Series B (December 2025) and is experiencing 8x business growth.
As a Backend Software Engineer, you will work closely with the CTO and CEO on strategic technical decisions and product direction. Your responsibilities include designing, developing, and optimizing backend services, APIs, and real-time data processing infrastructure that powers the platform's core AI-moderated interview technology.
Key projects involve implementing and refining the company's in-house Large Language Model and real-time interview capabilities, leading initiatives from conception through production deployment with a focus on scalability and reliability. You will also interface directly with enterprise users to gather feedback, understand pain points, and drive continuous product improvements.
The ideal candidate brings 3+ years of production-grade backend systems experience with strong proficiency in Python and Django for building robust APIs. You should have extensive SQL database knowledge (Postgres preferred) and hands-on experience deploying and managing services on AWS. Experience with WebRTC, real-time data streaming, or AI/ML infrastructure is a bonus.
