Molg is building robotic systems that make electronics manufacturing circular, working with hyperscalers and leading electronics manufacturers to automate hardware design, manufacturing, disassembly, repair, reuse, and recovery. Using robotics, computational design, and AI, the company transforms e-waste into resilient, data-driven supply chains. As a Backend Software Engineer, you will lead the design and implementation of scalable backend systems and microservices architecture powering Molg's robotics and assembly intelligence platforms. You'll own the full development lifecycle from system design through deployment, ensuring reliability, maintainability, and performance in production environments. Key responsibilities include architecting and deploying containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes) with focus on scalability and fault tolerance; building production-grade code with strong testing, monitoring, and QA processes; defining and improving CI/CD pipelines for rapid iteration; collaborating with robotics, mechanical, and software teams to integrate backend services into complex systems; solving large-scale architectural challenges with a systems-oriented approach; participating in sprint planning and technical reviews; mentoring junior engineers on backend best practices; and evaluating new backend technologies to improve development speed and reliability. You bring 5+ years of industry experience developing and maintaining production backend systems, with proven expertise designing microservices-based systems and RESTful APIs. You have strong proficiency in at least one high-level object-oriented language (Ruby, Python, Java), deep understanding of distributed systems and release management, and demonstrable experience with containerization and CI/CD pipelines. Experience with high-performance software development (C/C++, Rust), advanced algorithms, AI, signal processing, and Big Data architecture is highly desirable. You're proficient with Unix systems and shell scripting, familiar with front-end integration and software-defined networking, and possess clear communication skills to articulate trade-offs and mentor others. Molg is a 100% in-person team collaboratively working in an industrial space in Sterling, VA, featuring robots, CNC milling machines, 3D printers, and tools for building and testing products. The team is hands-on and collaborative with big ambitions, expecting autonomy and self-driven work completion.
