Grafana Labs is seeking a Backend Engineer to join the Application Core Services (AppCore) Stacks squad within the Platform organization. This role is based in the Foundations department, which builds the Internal Engineering Platform (IEP) that powers Grafana's business operations.
The Stacks squad owns the systems responsible for creating, configuring, reconciling, migrating, and operating Grafana Cloud stacks at scale. A stack represents the customer-facing Grafana Cloud environment that connects organizations to Grafana and its backend services including Mimir, Loki, Tempo, plugins, dashboards, and data sources.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building reconciliation systems, including the Stack State Service (SSS) backend, to track desired stack state and detect/repair drift across stack templates, grafana.com state, Hosted Grafana, and actual customer stack configuration
- Collaborating across SSS, grafana.com, and deployment configurations to ensure stack lifecycle workflows remain reliable, observable, and resilient
- Improving operational efficiency by reducing deployment complexity and contributing to the Stack Config Reconciliation project
- Managing rollout mechanisms for provisioned plugins, dashboards, data sources, Grafana versions, release channels, and stack-level configuration
- Supporting new region and cluster rollouts, including operational paths to bring stacks online safely in new Grafana Cloud regions
- Improving incident response and recovery paths for stack misalignment, reconciliation failures, and plugin rollout issues
You'll work at the intersection of product, platform, and business operations, building critical systems that enable Grafana to scale. The role involves solving complex workflow and systems problems while improving reliability and developer experience. Grafana is a 100% remote company with 1,600+ team members across 40+ countries, backed by leading investors including Sequoia Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners.
