As a Backend Engineer on the Index Data Processing team, you'll work across the full stack of cloud-native backend systems. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, researchers, and fellow engineers to define system architecture and requirements, then design, build, and maintain scalable services on AWS.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing cloud-native backend services with emphasis on reliability, security, and performance
- Writing production-ready Python code (with opportunities to use Go or Rust)
- Deploying and operating systems on AWS using Infrastructure as Code
- Debugging and optimizing systems using observability tools like Prometheus and Loki
- Contributing to strategic technical planning alongside team leads
You'll work on open-ended problems across multiple disciplines—a typical week might involve Python debugging, infrastructure changes, early-adopter conversations, and technical strategy sessions. This is not a ticket-picking role; you'll own meaningful technical challenges.
Required qualifications:
- Strong Python experience and cloud-native system design expertise
- Hands-on experience with AWS and containerized backend engineering
- Proficiency with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Loki)
- Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Self-driven learner with independent problem-solving ability
Desirable:
- Experience with Go and/or Rust
- Knowledge of graph databases or knowledge graphs (Neptune, Neo4j, graph modeling on Postgres)
