As a Backend Engineer III on the Hunt team, you will design, build, and scale hunt-specific backend services and data layers that power experiences for hunters. You'll take ownership of your work, collaborate across the organization, and contribute to meaningful real-world outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and scale well-tested backend services and data models powering onX apps
- Own the data layer that captures, stores, and serves data for new features
- Partner with engineers and product managers to integrate data and services cleanly, leveraging existing platform patterns
- Contribute to architectural decisions and write thorough unit, integration, and acceptance tests
- Provide code review and backend coverage across the team's work
- Participate in on-call rotation to ensure backend services remain highly available
- Explore opportunities to embed AI as a repeatable co-pilot in daily workflows
The role reports to the Engineering Manager of Hunt. onX offers a distributed workforce model with options to work from corporate offices in Missoula or Bozeman, Montana; established Basecamps in Austin, Charlotte, Denver, Kalispell, Minneapolis, Portland, Salt Lake City, and Seattle; or emerging Connection Hubs in Boise, Charleston, Dallas/Fort Worth, Phoenix, Richmond, Spokane, and Vermont.
