Salary: USD 145,500 - 235,400 / annual
LaunchDarkly is seeking a Backend Engineer to join the Flag Delivery team, responsible for building and operating the systems that stream feature-flag configuration to connected SDKs globally in near real time. This is a high-scale, mission-critical system where reliability, low latency, and correctness are paramount—when these systems fail, customers lose control of their features.
You will own well-scoped projects end-to-end, from design through production, working alongside senior engineers on both the current delivery infrastructure and next-generation architecture. The tech stack includes Go, AWS, Terraform, and Datadog, though strong fundamentals and a genuine appetite for learning large-system behavior matter more than exact tool familiarity.
Key responsibilities include building and shipping features in the streaming and polling infrastructure, owning projects from design through rollout and operational support, investigating and fixing production issues as part of the on-call rotation, writing maintainable and well-tested code, improving observability and reliability, collaborating across SDK Engineering and Data Platform teams, and growing your expertise in distributed systems with mentorship from senior engineers.
Required qualifications: 3+ years of professional software-engineering experience building production services; proficiency in at least one backend language (Go, Rust, Python, Java, etc.) and familiarity with a cloud platform like AWS; solid fundamentals in data structures, concurrency, API design, and testing; hands-on experience debugging production problems and willingness to participate in on-call rotations; working familiarity with observability tooling (dashboards, logs, traces); ability to break down ambiguous tasks and drive them to completion; and clear communication skills with genuine interest in learning from feedback.
