You'll join as a mid-level backend engineer in a scrum team of 6-8 engineers, a UX designer, and a Product Manager. Your role involves individual contribution to the codebase while also contributing to architectural decision-making. You'll have autonomy to drive innovation across areas including social investment features, document and workflow management, AI-enhanced products, and legal template generation. You'll report directly to the Director of Engineering and work collaboratively to solve technical problems.
The engineering team is international, comprising 20+ developers from 12 countries based primarily in the UK and France. The hybrid working model allows flexibility—teams meet fortnightly at the London office near Old Street for whiteboarding, planning, and collaboration, with freedom to work remotely otherwise.
Key responsibilities include building high-performance APIs, working with JVM languages (particularly Kotlin) and Spring, providing thorough PR reviews, and owning contributions across all development stages. You'll apply software engineering best practices including test-driven development and secure coding principles. The role offers exposure to the startup ecosystem, VC fundraising, investor tax schemes, and domain knowledge that could prepare you for entrepreneurship.
Desirable experience includes personal projects (blogs, open source contributions), work with LLMs like Claude, secure coding practices, monitoring of web applications including agentic microservices, and a product-engineer mindset aligned with agile principles.
Benefits include share options, contributory pension, private healthcare, 25 days annual leave plus birthday off, flexible working arrangements, annual learning budget, and wellbeing support.
