You'll join the Core Engineering team, which powers the document workflows that millions of users rely on daily: viewing, editing, embedding, exporting content, and integrations that connect Scribe to customers' broader stacks. This role focuses on shipping well-scoped backend work across core systems while contributing to both existing product surfaces and new greenfield projects.
Key responsibilities include building and shipping backend features in the Django monolith spanning document workflows and new initiatives; improving performance and reliability through database query optimization, endpoint tuning, and caching layer enhancements; collaborating with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver reliable experiences at scale; incorporating teammate feedback to grow your craft; and writing thoughtful code reviews, solid tests, and maintaining strong observability and performance standards.
You'll need 3+ years of backend application development experience with solid Python skills. You should be able to optimize endpoint performance and database queries in code you own, be a strong advocate for automated testing, be familiar with engineering best practices, and be user-centric and empathetic. Django experience is a plus but not required; startup experience is valued but not required.
The tech stack includes Python + Django, PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery + AmazonMQ, and Terraform-based AWS infrastructure. The role is hybrid, based in San Francisco with 3 days per week in office.
