As a Backend Engineer, you'll build core systems powering Mintlify's documentation and AI products. Your responsibilities include designing and shipping APIs and services for the editor, dashboard, and customer documentation sites; scaling content infrastructure to handle ingestion, validation, transformation, and publishing from thousands of customer repositories; building search, retrieval, and agent infrastructure for AI-powered features; and improving performance and reliability through caching, queues, databases, and observability as the platform scales.
You'll work on technically ambitious problems alongside engineers who value craft, speed, and thoughtful execution. The team has shipped notable projects including a virtual filesystem for their Assistant, edge caching that eliminated cold starts for 72M monthly page views, and significant features shipped in first 60 days. You'll have high agency as a product builder, drive strategic decisions, and own projects end-to-end with immediate impact visibility.
The role requires strong systems design, API architecture, database, and production systems experience. You should have strong product intuition, care about the "why" behind decisions, be adaptable to work across the stack when needed, appreciate high ownership, and be eager to engage directly with customers.
