HUMAN Security is seeking a Backend Engineer to join the Enforcers team, which builds the integration and enforcement layer for HUMAN's Application Protection platform. The platform safeguards online businesses and their customers from sophisticated bots, fraud, and abuse, processing over 20 trillion interactions per week for major global brands. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain backend and edge components that integrate HUMAN's real-time detection and enforcement capabilities into diverse customer environments—spanning CDNs, cloud platforms, serverless infrastructure, web servers, and application frameworks. You'll develop reliable, secure, and maintainable services and SDKs primarily using JavaScript and TypeScript, with a focus on performance and reliability for latency-sensitive components operating directly in the request path. Key responsibilities include owning the full software lifecycle from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement. You'll solve complex portability and integration challenges across different platforms and customer architectures, investigate production issues, and collaborate closely with Product, Security Research, Customer Success Engineering, and other Engineering teams to deliver end-to-end solutions. You bring 4+ years of hands-on software development experience with a focus on backend or platform engineering. You have strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, including production experience with Node.js, and solid understanding of backend fundamentals, HTTP-based services, APIs, and web infrastructure. You write clean, testable, maintainable code, take ownership of features through production, and have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. You work independently while collaborating effectively across teams. Nice-to-have skills include experience with CDNs (Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai, AWS CloudFront), cloud/serverless/edge computing, additional languages (Go, Rust, C, C++), deep knowledge of HTTP/networking/reverse proxies/NGINX/Kubernetes, SDK or developer tool development, cybersecurity or bot mitigation background, and experience with AI-assisted development tools.
