As a Backend Engineer, you will design, implement, and optimize systems powering mission-critical applications. The role offers flexibility to focus on areas aligned with your strengths: infrastructure (building scalable, secure, high-performance systems), platform (developing robust APIs and developer tools), or product (engineering backend services for customer-facing applications).
Core responsibilities include architecting and implementing scalable backend systems and APIs, ensuring high system performance, reliability, and security, collaborating with product managers and designers on end-to-end solutions, participating in code reviews and documentation, and mentoring junior engineers depending on seniority level.
Required qualifications: proficiency in backend languages like Java or Go, familiarity with relational and/or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis), experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure), understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed systems, and strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
Preferred qualifications for senior levels include containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, large-scale data processing or event-driven architectures, and leadership or mentoring experience.
The role is based in Mountain View with five-day-per-week onsite requirements. Base salary ranges from $137,000 to $173,750 annually, with equity awards and performance-based bonuses.
