Payoneer is seeking an experienced Backend Developer to take a leadership role within their engineering team. Founded in 2005, Payoneer is a global financial platform serving over 2,500 colleagues and customers across 190+ countries, removing friction from cross-border business operations.
In this role, you will design and implement robust, scalable backend solutions for complex financial workflows. You'll contribute significantly to the overall architecture, design, development, quality, and production deployment of team systems. Key responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional partners (Product, Design/UX, DevOps, other R&D teams), maintaining and improving engineering practices, proactively identifying system improvements, and leading by example in code quality through code reviews and mentorship.
You'll also help monitor production systems, investigate issues, and lead resolution efforts for critical production challenges while maintaining a customer-centric approach. The role emphasizes leveraging AI tools across the full development lifecycle—design, coding, testing, code review, documentation, and production investigation—not just as a coding assistant.
Required qualifications: 5+ years in backend software engineering with demonstrated ability to navigate technical trade-offs and ambiguity. Proficiency in C#, Java, or similar object-oriented languages; expertise in SQL and database management; strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms; experience with microservices architecture; and ability to design new functionality for complex components while maintaining scalability and performance. BA/BSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience preferred.
Desirable skills include Agile development methodologies, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), and proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
