Octopus Electroverse is Europe's largest eMobility charging network, operating over 1.4 million connected EV chargers across 79 countries. The company is building a global virtual charging platform to simplify public EV charging and accelerate the electric vehicle transition.
You will join as a Backend Engineer in one of the primary squads, working alongside product managers and fellow engineers to develop critical services serving end users globally. Your focus will be on building robust, scalable backend systems that power the Electroverse platform across web, iOS, Android, CarPlay, Android Auto, and Automotive OS.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing backend services using best practices in observability, data analysis, and defensive programming to safely scale products and CPO (Charge Point Operator) integrations globally
- Collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to break down complex problems, assess feasibility, and propose creative technical solutions
- Building highly impactful features that fuel product innovation in the fast-moving EV charging industry
- Ensuring robust, fault-tolerant software that supports a market-leading platform
The role offers exposure to B2B product development, third-party API integrations, and the opportunity to influence how backend architecture delivers scalability and reliability at a rapidly growing company in the climate tech space.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2+ years of commercial experience with Python
- Good communication skills with ability to consider product vision and propose creative technical solutions within a team
- Ability to write robust and fault-tolerant software
- Proficient understanding of Git and CI/CD
- Good understanding of databases and data architecture
- Experience with API development (REST, GraphQL, etc.)
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with web frameworks (Django)
- Experience working on B2B product features
- Experience working with OCPI (Open Charge Point Interface)
- Experience integrating third-party API solutions
