As a Backend Data Engineer on the Quant team, you will build and own backend services connecting frontend, AI agents, databases, identity systems, and external data providers. The Quant team is responsible for a multi-modal intelligence agent that surfaces hidden patterns across disparate data sources and generates predictive outcomes for operators.
You will design and maintain services using Python/FastAPI/TypeScript/Express, building secure REST APIs, SSE streams, and WebSocket-based features. You'll own PostgreSQL schemas, migrations, transactions, and query performance optimization. Core responsibilities include supporting OIDC/JWT authentication and resource-scoped RBAC, integrating external data providers while handling authentication, pagination, rate limits, and failure states, and defining stable documented contracts for frontend and AI consumers.
You will build comprehensive unit, contract, and database-backed integration tests, instrument services with structured logging, and diagnose production failures using tools like Sentry and Langfuse. Collaboration with frontend and AI engineers throughout feature development and release is essential.
Required qualifications include strong production experience with Python/FastAPI/TypeScript/Express, deep PostgreSQL knowledge, OAuth/OIDC and JWT expertise, understanding of concurrency and distributed failure modes, experience designing stable service contracts, security-conscious approach to input validation and sensitive data, and ability to diagnose production issues using logs and error monitoring.
Preferred qualifications include advanced Python/FastAPI/Pydantic skills, experience with Snowflake or ClickHouse, external API integrations, geospatial data handling, graph-oriented data modeling, containerized environments, GCP/AWS, and durable background job systems like Temporal.
The Belgrade, Serbia position is in-office based. Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance are available.
