Fudo is a high-growth restaurant management software startup operating across Latin America (Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil). The company has moved beyond experimental AI—they run production LLM agents serving customers, internal copilots, and a multi-country data warehouse. The AI team builds the infrastructure enabling these systems: backend services, data models, and context layers that allow LLMs to operate reliably on real business logic without hallucination.
You'll join as a Backend AI Engineer, a strong backend engineer with hands-on experience scaling LLM and ML solutions. Your first project is Go-To-Market: the sales team onboards thousands of new restaurants monthly across LATAM, and manual work (account research, lead qualification, message personalization, data movement) no longer scales. You'll convert that manual work into systems: enrichment pipelines, lead scoring, account research agents, and the data layers feeding them.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and build production backend services for LLM systems: orchestration, tool calling, state management, queues, retries, idempotence, timeouts, fallbacks
- Model and construct the data layer: relational schemas, indexing, query performance, ingestion and normalization pipelines
- Build the retrieval layer: embeddings, vector databases, chunking strategies, hybrid search (semantic + keyword), reranking, retrieval quality measurement
- Design and maintain a semantic layer over the data warehouse: define metrics, dimensions, joins, and business rules once so agents query governed concepts instead of raw SQL
- Define evaluation: datasets, automated regression testing, guardrails, observability of quality/cost/latency per model
- Integrate the business stack: HubSpot CRM, data warehouse, enrichment tools, messaging channels (WhatsApp), internal APIs
- Build internal tooling, MCP servers, and agents that save time and provide better context
The role demands autonomy, responsibility, and commitment while being a collaborative team member. You'll be a technical reference point elevating Fudo's AI engineering standards. The team works on a fast-moving frontier where retrieval, evaluation, and agent orchestration practices shift every few months—you should enjoy experimenting, measuring, iterating, and understanding how these technologies work under the hood.
