Sensor Tower (now part of Data.ai) is a digital intelligence platform trusted by 2,500+ enterprises worldwide to understand market trends, competitor strategies, and consumer behavior across mobile, web, and gaming. The company processes tens of terabytes of data daily and serves customers in tech, retail, entertainment, gaming, CPG, finance, and investment sectors. You will join a lean, flat engineering organization where you own meaningful product decisions and work across the full development lifecycle—from architecture design through implementation and customer delivery. Your primary focus will be optimizing backend systems that handle billions of database rows, using profiling and performance analysis to ensure customers can access data as quickly as possible. Key responsibilities include: - Designing and implementing full features from brainstorming through backend delivery - Optimizing database endpoints by profiling Ruby code and analyzing ClickHouse query performance - Building robust backend systems for products like SDK Insights, which requires understanding mobile SDK teardown mechanics - Conducting code reviews and suggesting process improvements - Participating in the full development lifecycle with emphasis on quality and simplicity The engineering culture prioritizes simplicity over over-engineering, code quality and readability, extreme ownership of problems at their root cause, and ruthless prioritization of what matters most. You'll work in a distributed team environment with pair programming over Zoom and asynchronous collaboration. Required experience: 3+ years as a software engineer with strong programming fundamentals, algorithms knowledge, and software design skills. Solid understanding of RESTful systems and API design principles. Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred). Required: Ruby on Rails proficiency (or Python with willingness to learn Rails). Nice-to-have skills: ClickHouse, MongoDB, Sidekiq, TypeScript, React.js.
