The Exploration Company is seeking an Avionics Systems Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and validate spacecraft avionics systems. This role focuses on delivering robust electronic systems for data handling, communications, and control across all mission phases.
Key responsibilities include defining avionics system architectures (electronics, data handling, communications), ensuring end-to-end consistency of data flows and interfaces, and supporting selection of avionics equipment and computing platforms. You will define onboard and ground communication concepts, implement telemetry and telecommand architectures, and ensure reliable data acquisition and transmission under mission constraints.
The role involves managing interfaces between avionics and other spacecraft subsystems (power, propulsion, guidance/navigation/control, payload), coordinating with internal teams, suppliers, and external stakeholders. You will define and support verification and validation strategies, participate in simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing, and analyze test results to drive corrective actions.
A critical aspect of this position is presenting and defending avionics subsystem designs and verification evidence to external regulatory authorities including NASA, ESA, and other government agencies to support spacecraft qualification and flight certification.
You will capture and manage system requirements with full traceability from mission objectives through implementation and validation, ensuring compliance with space standards. Cross-functional collaboration is essential—working closely with software, hardware, systems, operations, and mission engineering teams through design reviews and technical exchanges.
Required: degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent; 3+ years in avionics systems, electronics, embedded systems, or spacecraft engineering; strong understanding of electronic/embedded architectures, communication/data handling principles, system integration, and interface management; experience with requirements engineering and system lifecycle development; knowledge of verification/validation methods including testing and simulation.
Preferred: spacecraft avionics or aerospace systems experience; familiarity with space communication standards (CCSDS); experience with HIL testing or digital engineering tools; exposure to safety-critical or mission-critical system development; experience in international or multi-stakeholder engineering teams.
