Lodestar Space is developing autonomous defense capabilities for high-value space assets in orbit. Their flagship product, MITHRIL, is an AI-enabled autonomy software suite that augments spacecraft to autonomously detect, characterize, and neutralize orbital threats. The company delivers an end-to-end autonomous in-space bodyguarding service by integrating MITHRIL with proven satellite-bus platforms.
As a Mid-level Avionics Hardware Engineer, you will design, implement, and validate advanced avionics architectures for autonomous space platforms. You'll own the avionics subsystem architecture and work hands-on across the full lifecycle from concept through on-orbit readiness.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define and own avionics subsystem architectures
- Design, layout, bring-up, and validation of PCBs for high-speed digital avionics systems
- Lead design reviews and drive technical decisions across the hardware lifecycle, collaborating with systems and software teams
- Conduct hardware debugging and system-level testing using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and lab instrumentation
- Build, test, and maintain electrical harnesses and wiring assemblies for flight and development hardware
- Collaborate with mechanical, systems, and software teams to ensure seamless integration of avionics hardware into flight systems
- Support environmental qualification and verification testing (EMC, vibration, thermal vacuum, etc.)
Required qualifications include a BEng/MEng in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, 3+ years delivering complex electronics hardware projects, proven expertise in PCB design and hardware bring-up/testing, knowledge of high-speed interface design and signal integrity, hardware debugging skills, experience with lab test equipment, and hands-on electrical assembly experience.
Preferred experience includes designing boards for Linux-based SoCs and FPGAs, familiarity with NVIDIA SoMs, FPGA design and integration, PCB simulation workflows, and background in space-rated electronics and high-reliability design practices including radiation effects analysis and qualification processes.
