Long Wall Company, founded in 2024, accelerates missile defense technology for the U.S. and allies. The company specializes in ballistic missile defense and is developing Cyclops, a low-cost, mass-producible interceptor, along with containerized launchers and low-cost targets for threat replication. As an Avionics Engineer, you will own the design, development, and qualification of avionics systems for advanced defense platforms. You will define and document avionics system requirements across the vehicle, lead system design reviews to ensure compliance with internal and external specifications, and develop comprehensive test plans for component and system qualification. You will specify, evaluate, and test avionics components including batteries, motors, integrated circuits, and sensors. Your responsibilities include designing avionics hardware through schematic development and PCB layout, serving as the responsible engineer for one or more avionics systems, and proposing next-generation avionics products. You will investigate and resolve manufacturing, integration, and operational issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions, while maintaining system and interface requirements across vehicle subsystems. The role demands mission-driven problem-solving, curiosity in tackling complex challenges, and total ownership of flight-ready deliverables. You will work collaboratively with teammates, recognizing that complementary skills drive mission success. REQUIREMENTS: Basic Qualifications: - B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar from an accredited university - 2+ years of experience in the development of aircraft, missiles, spacecraft, or similar electronic/avionic systems Required Skills and Experience: - Hands-on experience developing, integrating, and testing avionics or electronic systems for aircraft, missiles, or spacecraft - Proficiency with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer) for schematic capture and layout - Strong grounding in electrical fundamentals, circuit design, and analysis - Experience defining and managing system and interface requirements across subsystems - Ability to plan and execute component- and system-level qualification testing and analyze results Preferred Skills and Experience: - 3+ years of experience with PCB design software (preferably Altium Designer) for schematic capture, layout, simulation, and fulfillment - Proficiency in CAD design software (e.g., NX) - Experience with circuit design and analysis tools (e.g., LTSpice) and simulation - Proven track record of qualifying avionics systems for spaceflight - Experience developing or architecting systems to meet government regulations - Demonstrated leadership experience in avionics system design and execution Additional Requirements: - US person status required (US citizen, permanent resident, granted asylum, or admitted as refugee) due to ITAR and export control compliance - Ability to sit or stand for extended periods - Ability to use a computer to complete assignments - Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone, and via telepresence - Ability to pick up to 12 lbs - Typical work environment is office-based
