Salary: USD 140,000 - 260,000 / annual
Archer Technologies is building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed to carry four passengers with minimal noise, advancing sustainable air mobility. As an Autonomy Engineer, you will own the communication layer that enables the aircraft to operate safely and reliably.
You will be responsible for designing, developing, and integrating the command-and-telemetry communication infrastructure that connects the aircraft to ground systems and enables multi-platform coordination. Your core responsibilities include:
- Architecting and implementing resilient, long-range wireless communication links that maintain connectivity across diverse operational environments
- Integrating mesh radio systems (such as Silvus, Doodle Labs, or Microhard) into the onboard software stack
- Designing and validating IP networking architectures that support reliable multi-platform communication
- Implementing MAVLink and other telemetry protocols to enable seamless data exchange between aircraft platforms and ground control systems
- Collaborating closely with hardware, integration, and test teams to validate communication performance in real-world field conditions
You should have a strong background in RF/communications engineering or networking-focused software engineering. Required experience includes working with mesh radio systems, IP networking, MAVLink or similar telemetry protocols, and embedded Linux systems. Bonus qualifications include experience with long-range or beyond-line-of-sight communication systems, field deployment of communication systems for deployed platforms, and familiarity with subscale aircraft or robotics communication architectures.
This is an onsite role based in San Jose, California. Visa sponsorship is not available. The role offers a competitive base salary range of $140,000–$260,000, with actual compensation determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
