BillionToOne, a publicly traded genomics diagnostics company, is hiring an Automation Service Engineering Associate II to support high-throughput clinical patient testing at its CLIA-certified laboratory in Union City, CA. This role provides primary service response for laboratory operations, including troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of laboratory automation equipment and instrumentation. You will execute routine preventive maintenance, perform equipment qualifications (IQ/OQ/PQ), troubleshoot and triage equipment issues, coordinate vendor support and escalations, and maintain comprehensive service records and spare parts inventory. The role also involves drafting and revising documentation related to equipment operation and maintenance, identifying and proposing process improvements, and participating in cross-functional initiatives to improve reliability, throughput, and quality.
The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline and 1+ years of hands-on experience servicing liquid handlers or 2+ years in a technical service role (biotech, medical devices, clinical lab). You should have familiarity with coding basics and flow control logic used in automation workflows, understanding of clinical laboratory assays, and demonstrated problem-solving ability with minimal direction. Strong documentation skills, knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP), excellent customer service orientation, and effective communication are essential. Nice-to-haves include experience troubleshooting liquid handler scripts, general programming/scripting languages, CLIA-regulated laboratory environments, and training program development.
Shift hours are Tuesday–Saturday, 3pm–11:30pm with a PM shift differential. Occasional off-hours support may be required.
