Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking an Automation Engineer to join the Manufacturing Automation team in Costa Mesa. The team is responsible for designing, integrating, and deploying automated manufacturing systems across Anduril factories at national scale.
In this role, you will own controls systems end-to-end as the technical system owner, managing architecture, PLC/HMI development, commissioning, proof of rate, and sustainment handoff. You will deploy and maintain operational technology (OT) server infrastructure including MQTT brokers and jump hosts, applying disciplined backup and change-control practices.
Key responsibilities include designing and maintaining the OT networking stack for production (MQTT, OPC UA, TCP/IP), diagnosing protocol, timing, and VLAN segmentation issues using packet-level analysis. You will architect, develop, and debug PLC code on Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms, producing structured, documented code suitable for high-volume manufacturing environments.
Security is paramount: you will apply defense-grade OT security practices including air-gapped design, IEC 62443/NIST 800-82 segmentation, Purdue-model layering, server hardening, and secure remote access. You will partner cross-functionally with IT, Security, FactoryOS, and Manufacturing Engineering teams, representing the controls team in design reviews and cybersecurity buy-offs.
Additional responsibilities include RJ45 wiring, switch configuration, automating system backups for both IT and OT environments, firewall configurations, and AWS EC2 management.
