BigHat Biosciences is seeking an Automation Engineer II to develop and scale automated workflows for their antibody engineering platform. In this role, you will lead end-to-end development of high-throughput automated assay processes spanning drug and antibody discovery technologies. You'll program laboratory automation instruments and robotic systems (Hamilton, OpenTrons, and others), contribute to the design of integrated workcells focused on capacity increases and cost reduction, and troubleshoot existing workflows to identify and resolve bottlenecks. Collaboration is central: you'll work closely with software engineering and LIMS teams to build integrated workflows leveraging BigHat's software stack, and support equipment validation and qualification efforts including design, execution, and documentation. You'll also contribute to growing the automation team's expertise and capabilities. You bring a BS or MS in engineering, biochemistry, or a related scientific field, plus 2+ years of relevant industry experience. You have hands-on experience programming or operating automated liquid handling systems from conception through implementation, with familiarity in Hamilton and/or OpenTrons platforms preferred. Background in molecular biology, cell biology techniques, or drug discovery automation is a plus. You're comfortable with experimental design, bench execution, process documentation, and data analysis. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across diverse teams—protein scientists, research associates, data scientists, software engineers—are essential. You thrive in a dynamic, fluid startup environment and enjoy building capabilities from the ground up.
