Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities through advanced autonomous systems, AI, and sensor fusion technology. The company's Lattice OS platform powers autonomous air, ground, maritime, and sensor systems.
As an Automation Engineer, you will design, program, commission, and scale automated manufacturing systems across Anduril's multi-site production footprint. This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced environment where you'll transform complex hardware designs into high-rate automated production realities.
Key responsibilities include:
• Design and architect full-lifecycle automated assembly, testing, and material-handling workcells from concept through high-volume production, including simulation and deployment.
• Develop, debug, and optimize PLC, HMI, and SCADA code across modern industrial platforms (Beckhoff TwinCAT, Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley) using IEC 61131-3 languages and industrial networking protocols (EtherCAT, Profinet, Ethernet/IP).
• Program, calibrate, and simulate multi-axis industrial and collaborative robots (Fanuc, Kuka, ABB, Universal Robots, Staubli), implementing advanced trajectory planning, sensor integration, vision guidance, and functional safety systems.
• Design electrical schematics, panel layouts, and safety circuits using CAD tools (EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks), ensuring compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, and UL508A standards.
• Integrate custom tooling, vision inspection systems, and edge devices using Python, C++, or C# to interface production equipment with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and telemetry databases.
• Partner with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Test Engineering teams to implement Design for Automation (DFA) principles, streamline new product introduction (NPI), and eliminate operational bottlenecks.
The posting indicates openings across various experience levels (Associate, Mid, Senior, and Staff). Roles may require travel. Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent practical experience in automated manufacturing environments).
• Demonstrated practical experience or technical foundation in one or more of: PLC/HMI/motion control programming (Beckhoff, Siemens, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley); industrial or collaborative robotic platforms (Fanuc, Kuka, ABB, UR) with robot path planning and kinematic modeling; software development in Python, C++, C#, or ROS/ROS 2 with CAD/modeling tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, EPLAN); industrial fieldbuses, sensor systems, motor sizing, VFDs, and machinery safety protocols.
• Strong hands-on troubleshooting abilities, proactive initiative, and capability to thrive in rapid-iteration, ambiguous, hardware-intensive environments.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
