Griffin is a fully regulated UK bank founded in 2024 that powers accounts and payments for product-led fintechs and platforms including Uber, Yonder, Prosper, and Sidekick. The company operates as a remote-first organization with asynchronous, flexible work practices and a strong emphasis on high-trust, high-autonomy culture. The Assurance function is the second line of defence, responsible for independent reviews of risk management, controls, and governance across the business. You will report to the Head of Assurance with a dotted line to the MLRO (Money Laundering Reporting Officer) for financial crime priorities. This is a newly expanded role building assurance coverage from the ground up, with financial crime as the initial priority. Key responsibilities include: - Deliver independent assurance reviews, thematic deep dives, and control testing across the business with focus on financial crime - Manage financial crime scope within the assurance plan, agreeing priorities directly with the MLRO - Embed combined assurance approach with Compliance, Risk, FinCrime, and Internal Audit while protecting independence - Set evidence standards for remediation, ensuring fixes actually hold rather than appearing closed on paper - Own and maintain the actions tracker to keep the backlog moving - Produce assurance workpapers and reports that withstand scrutiny; represent Head of Assurance at risk and audit committees (ERCO/BRC) - Help mature testing methodology, templates, and tooling as the function grows Within 6 months, you should deliver 3-4 assurance reviews end-to-end with no material quality concerns. By 12 months, measurably grow assurance capacity, reduce overdue actions, and give the team confidence coverage is holding as the business scales. Griffin's BaaS model presents unique challenges including nested customers, reliance-model relationships, and cross-border payment flows. You will have direct exposure to the CRO and Executive Committee—visibility rarely available in similar roles at larger banks. Benefits include: salary up to £60k, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays and winter break, share options, auto-enrolment pension (Penfold), private medical insurance (Bupa with family cover), life insurance (AIG), 1:1 coaching and therapy (Oliva), enhanced parental leave (up to 6 months full pay after 2 years), Claude subscription, and WFH setup support. Remote-first with optional London office access (Moorgate); up to 20 days per year working from abroad. REQUIREMENTS: - Assurance, audit, or QC experience including control testing (not just checklist reviews) - Financial crime experience as a reviewer, process owner, consultant, or within a prior assurance role - Solid knowledge of UK regulatory framework (POCA, SAR obligations, FCA/PRA expectations) - Track record of raising uncomfortable findings when warranted and standing behind them unless new evidence emerges - Experience working in a regulated financial services environment - Judgment to hold challenging conversations with first line without damaging relationships - Coordination skills to keep combined assurance model working smoothly - Strong writing ability; Griffin places high importance on clarity and readability in documentation IDEAL TO HAVE: - Relevant qualification (ICA financial crime, CAMS, or IIA) - Model validation, prudential risk, or tech assurance experience
