Salary: USD 100,000 - 160,000 / annual

Flock Safety is building autonomous drone systems for first responders to support public safety operations. As an Associate Wireless Software Engineer, you will own the connectivity architecture that enables high-definition video streaming and low-latency telemetry for drone fleets operating in complex outdoor environments, including non-line-of-sight scenarios. You will integrate off-the-shelf and custom radio hardware (Wi-Fi and cellular) into Flock's embedded drone connectivity stack. Your day-to-day work spans Linux user-space and kernel driver development using C, C++, and Python. You'll develop automated systems to extract, log, and analyze wireless link performance metrics (RSSI, SNR, packet loss) and collaborate with RF engineers and embedded systems teams to design rate adaptation algorithms for dynamic flight conditions. This is a hands-on role: you'll conduct flight data analysis, perform hardware-in-the-loop testing in connectivity labs, and validate real-world aerial performance. You are not designing RF hardware boards—that's the RF team's domain—but you will work closely with them and across the full stack from embedded firmware through user-space tools to cloud logging pipelines. You bring solid foundational programming skills in C, C++, and Python, practical Linux experience, and a technical understanding of networking or embedded systems. Ideal candidates have exposure to wireless communications, microcontrollers, or robotics through coursework, design teams, research labs, or personal projects. A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field is required. Experience with 802.11, 5G, single-board computers, SDRs, or robotics is a plus. You communicate well, are eager to learn from senior engineers, and are excited to build complex autonomous technology that directly impacts public safety.
