Y Combinator's Media team is seeking an Associate Video Producer to support the production of videos, podcasts, interviews, and editorial projects. You will work closely with Senior Video Producers across the full production lifecycle—from research and pre-interviews through editing, publishing, and distribution.
Key responsibilities include:
**Production Support**: Research guests, companies, and technologies; write interview questions and editorial briefs; conduct pre-interviews with detailed note-taking; coordinate shoot logistics with founders and guests; review edits; edit short-form clips; and assist with final approval workflows.
**Project Organization**: Maintain comprehensive production documentation and project tracking; keep production schedules, shoot calendars, and publishing calendars current; manage the production pipeline to ensure nothing falls through the cracks; organize and archive transcripts, video files, and production assets in Dropbox; transcribe recordings; and distribute final deliverables to partners.
**Publishing & Distribution**: Upload and publish content across YouTube, podcast platforms, and other channels; prepare titles, descriptions, thumbnails, transcripts, and chapters; and coordinate final handoffs between editorial, production, and distribution teams.
**On-Set Support**: Welcome guests, manage their comfort and logistics, maintain clean and organized sets, assist as a camera operator when needed, and help organize production equipment.
This role is ideal for someone early in a media career who wants to learn the entire production process rather than specialize in one narrow area. You should be equally comfortable thinking about what makes content compelling and executing the hundred small operational details required to publish it.
The position is based in San Francisco's Dogpatch offices with a hybrid schedule: at least three days per week in-office, with additional days as filming schedules require. Some projects may involve travel and weekend work.
**Requirements:**
- Deep interest in and understanding of startups, AI, technology, and internet culture; familiarity with Y Combinator and startup ecosystem
- Intellectual curiosity and ability to learn quickly on unfamiliar technical subjects and companies
- Some hands-on experience producing, editing video, or producing podcasts or other media
- Strong writing and research skills with good editorial instincts; ability to explain complex technical topics clearly
- Highly organized, reliable, and capable of managing multiple projects and details simultaneously
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot errors or inconsistencies
- Hands-on experience with cameras, audio, and video production equipment (need not be expert, but should be comfortable setting up and operating gear)
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds for production gear and setup
- Willingness to do whatever is needed to make productions successful, from editing to research to logistics
- Clear communication and quick follow-up
- Candidates must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area
- This position does not support work authorization or visa sponsorship
