Vaxcyte, a clinical-stage vaccine innovation company, is seeking an Associate Scientist II to join the CMC Immunoassay group. This role focuses on the development, qualification, characterization, governance, and lifecycle management of critical reagents and reference materials supporting immunoassays across Vaxcyte's vaccine pipeline targeting bacterial diseases including invasive pneumococcal disease, Group A Strep, and Shigella.
Key responsibilities include performing hands-on assay execution for immunoassay development, optimization, platform evaluation, and routine testing. You will engage in daily laboratory operations including reagent preparation, sample handling, plate and bead preparation, instrument operation, assay setup, data capture, and documentation. The role requires executing immunoassays supporting potency, antigenicity, identity, impurity, characterization, comparability, release, and stability testing.
You will support experiments using ELISA, MSD, bead-based assays, multiplex assays, electrochemiluminescence-based assays, and other ligand-binding assay formats. Responsibilities include preparing reagents, buffers, samples, plates, beads, assay controls, and reference materials. You will generate and summarize assay data including standard curves, sample response, dilution response, recovery, precision, and system suitability results.
Under direction of senior scientists, you will support troubleshooting studies by executing experiments, documenting observations, organizing data, and communicating findings. Additional duties include critical reagent and reference material activities such as aliquoting, labeling, inventory tracking, reagent screening, lot comparison, and stability study support. Maintaining accurate laboratory documentation via ELN entries, assay worksheets, and reagent records is essential, along with supporting laboratory readiness including consumable tracking, instrument coordination, and GLP compliance.
Required qualifications: BS in Biochemistry, Immunology, Analytical Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or related discipline with minimum 2 years biopharmaceutical industry laboratory experience; or MS with 1 year relevant experience. Hands-on experience with immunoassays, ligand-binding assays, analytical testing, and bioanalytical workflows required. Familiarity with ELISA, MSD, electrochemiluminescence, bead-based, and multiplex assay platforms essential. Strong attention to detail, laboratory safety commitment, data integrity focus, and ability to manage multiple tasks in fast-paced environment required.
