Hinge Health, an AI-powered digital health platform focused on musculoskeletal care, is seeking an Associate General Counsel, Product to serve as a strategic legal partner to Product, Engineering, Clinical, Commercial, Privacy, Compliance, and executive teams.
You will advise on bringing innovative digital health products and services to market responsibly, counseling from early product concepts through launch, commercialization, and scaling. This role addresses legal and regulatory issues specific to healthcare technology serving employers, health plans, and members—including HIPAA and healthcare privacy, corporate practice of medicine (CPOM), and "friendly PC" operating models.
In your first 3 months, you will build strong working relationships across Product, Engineering, Clinical, Privacy, Compliance, Commercial, and executive stakeholders; develop deep understanding of Hinge Health's products, care model, employer and health-plan partnerships, and medical-entity structure; and provide fresh perspective on key product, privacy, healthcare regulatory, CPOM, and friendly-PC legal considerations.
In your first 6 months, you will become a trusted go-to advisor who clearly articulates risk, options, and recommendations even amid ambiguity and competing priorities. You will serve as primary legal partner on high-priority product initiatives through discovery, design, testing, launch, marketing, and iteration. You will provide practical advice on HIPAA, healthcare privacy, data use and sharing, member-facing experiences, clinical workflows, and legal implications of new technologies and care delivery models. You will mentor Legal team members and contribute to a high-performing, collaborative legal function.
In your first year, you will shape a scalable product legal strategy and operating model that anticipates regulatory change, reduces friction for product teams, and enables responsible growth across employer and health-plan channels.
Key responsibilities include: serving as primary legal advisor for cross-functional teams; advising throughout the product lifecycle; providing practical guidance on healthcare regulation, HIPAA, data use, privacy, clinical workflows, and emerging technologies; identifying and communicating material legal risks and options; supporting medical-entity governance and friendly-PC structures; developing scalable legal processes, playbooks, templates, and decision frameworks; leading concurrent legal workstreams while responding to changing priorities; building trusted cross-functional relationships; mentoring Legal team members; communicating complex legal concepts clearly; assisting with international product launches and GDPR compliance; supporting government program requirements (Medicare, Medicaid, VA); advising on clinical scope-of-practice and multi-state telehealth compliance; and collaborating in a hybrid environment with three days in-office per week.
You are a product-minded attorney with healthcare experience who enjoys learning how products and care models work. You are creative and pragmatic, distinguishing material risk from theoretical risk and developing options that balance legal requirements with patient/member interests and business objectives. You communicate clearly with legal and non-legal audiences, build trust across diverse working styles including senior stakeholders, and deliver clear recommendations amid legal uncertainty. You are comfortable operating with limited precedent, shifting priorities, and incomplete information, using sound judgment and keeping work moving. You are an inclusive people leader who develops others, gives candid feedback, and creates clarity and accountability.
REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Qualifications:
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
- Active license to practice law and membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
- 8+ years of legal counseling experience, including significant in-house or embedded client-counseling experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience counseling on healthcare products or services, preferably in digital health, health technology, or employer-sponsored health-plan point-solution business
- Product counseling experience across the product lifecycle (strategy, design, launch, marketing, commercialization, post-launch changes)
- Experience advising on healthcare privacy and HIPAA, including data use, data sharing, member communications, and privacy-by-design practices
- Experience advising on FDA regulations and compliance guidelines, including preparing or reviewing regulatory submissions, product labeling, or safety reports
- Experience advising on corporate practice of medicine, medical-entity governance, and "friendly PC" or MSO-PC structures
- Direct people-management experience, including meaningful experience leading, mentoring, and developing attorneys or legal professionals
- Experience partnering with cross-functional and executive stakeholders in fast-moving, highly regulated environments
- Strong track record of balancing legal risk with business needs, developing creative solutions, and influencing decisions across teams with different perspectives
- Experience advising on AI-enabled products, medical devices, clinical technology, or other emerging healthcare technologies
