Counterpart is an insurtech platform building an Agentic Insurance™ system that combines advanced AI with deep insurance expertise to help small businesses manage professional liability risk. As an Associate Claims Manager on the Claims team, you will be an early user of and key feedback provider for Counterpart's active claims management processes and systems, helping shape how the company delivers world-class service.
You will complete accurate and timely investigations into coverage, liability, and damages for assigned claims, actively managing each to achieve timely and cost-effective resolution. You'll build and maintain productive relationships with policyholders, brokers, carrier partners, and internal risk engineers. You'll direct and monitor assignments to external experts and counsel, holding vendors accountable to service standards. A critical part of your role is supporting data collection efforts by accurately capturing claim details in the Counterpart system to feed AI models and analytics. You'll identify and escalate emerging claims trends across industries and geographies, offer user-level feedback to improve processes and systems, and ensure every interaction reflects the company's brand and mission.
This is a high-autonomy role in a fast-moving startup environment. You'll work closely with Claims leadership, internal Data and Engineering teams, and carrier partners. The company emphasizes entrepreneurial thinking, comfort with ambiguity, ownership of outcomes, and direct communication. You should expect to help build processes and tools in real time, embrace a strong feedback culture, and operate with a bias toward action.
The role requires approximately 10-15% travel.
REQUIREMENTS:

- Must possess all required state claim adjuster licenses, or be able to obtain them within 90 days of hire
- Proven ability to work independently on complex matters and collaboratively as a team player
- High level of personal initiative and leadership skills
- Exceptional time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Comfort operating in a paperless claims environment and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); familiarity with Google Docs suite is a plus
- Willingness to use creative thinking and data-driven insights to overcome obstacles
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to succeed in a fully remote workplace environment
