Thunes is a global payments infrastructure company operating a Direct Global Network that enables real-time payments across 130+ countries and 80+ currencies. The company connects to over 7 billion mobile wallets and bank accounts through 350+ payment methods, serving clients like Uber, Deliveroo, Grab, and WeChat.
This role is an Assistant Tax Manager or Senior Tax Specialist based in Manila, reporting functionally to the Global Tax Director in Singapore. You will oversee and execute global tax operations within the fast-paced payments sector, managing compliance, risk, and process optimization across multiple jurisdictions.
Key responsibilities include:
**Global Direct, Indirect & US Tax Compliance:** Coordinate and review corporate income tax returns for global entities. Review US federal, state, and local tax returns (forms 1120, 5471, 8858, 1099K). Ensure accurate filings for VAT, GST, and digital services taxes. Assist in compiling information and responding to tax audits and ad-hoc queries.
**Withholding Tax Management:** Evaluate cross-border payments for correct withholding tax (WHT) application and treaty benefits. Oversee collection and filing of residency certificates (TRCs) and W-8 forms. Monitor WHT accounts and ensure timely remittance to local tax authorities.
**Transfer Pricing:** Assist with updates to local files and master file documentation. Support calculation of intercompany allocations and review new transactions for arm's-length pricing compliance.
**Tax Accounting:** Calculate global tax provisions, effective tax rates, deferred taxes, and transfer pricing adjustments. Build and maintain complex financial models with advanced Excel formulas (VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, Index/Match) to automate data reconciliation. Align tax accounts with financial statements under IFRS or US GAAP.
You will thrive in a dynamic fintech environment, adapt to changing tax laws and evolving processes, meet tight global statutory and internal reporting deadlines, and maintain a collaborative, solution-oriented approach with cross-functional remote teams.
Required: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in corporate tax or Big 4 accounting, ideally within fintech, financial services, or payments. Direct, hands-on experience with US tax compliance and reporting is highly preferred. Advanced Excel skills including data manipulation, formulas, and large dataset analysis. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
