As an Applied Scientist/Research Engineer on the Mistral AI research team, you will drive key research efforts and partner with clients to solve challenging problems in artificial intelligence. Your work will focus on building and applying advanced models across text, image, and speech, delivering real, measurable impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Running pre-training, post-training, and deploying state-of-the-art models on GPU clusters with thousands of GPUs
- Generating and curating data for pre-training and post-training, working on evaluations to ensure model performance exceeds expectations
- Developing tools and frameworks to facilitate data generation, model training, evaluation, and deployment
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to tackle complex use cases using agents and retrieval pipelines
- Managing research projects and communications with client research teams
Required qualifications:
- Fluent English with excellent communication skills; able to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
- Expert proficiency with PyTorch or JAX
- Comfortable navigating large codebases independently with minimal guidance
- Strong Python coding skills: clean, readable, high-performance, fault-tolerant code
- Self-directed; moves independently and navigates uncertainty with confidence
- Collaborative, low-ego mindset with eagerness to learn
- Demonstrated track record of success through personal projects, professional work, or academia
Nice-to-have qualifications:
- PhD or Master's degree in Mathematics, Physics, or Machine Learning (exceptional candidates from other backgrounds welcome)
- Research experience in agents, multimodal models, world models, robotics, diffusion models, cybersecurity, 3D understanding/generation, or time-series analysis
- Contributions to large open-source or industry codebases
- Publications in top academic journals or conferences
- Experience improving existing code through typing, tests, and CI pipelines
