Mistral AI is seeking a Technical Lead, Applied AI to drive technical strategy and execution of complex AI solutions for enterprise customers. You will lead a team of Applied AI Engineers, serving as the primary technical point of contact for strategic customers throughout their entire lifecycle—from pre-sales through post-implementation.
In this hybrid IC/manager role, you will remain hands-on, delivering critical code for complex projects while providing technical mentorship and guidance to your team. You'll design and oversee implementation of sophisticated AI systems including fine-tuning, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), agentic workflows, and custom LLM applications. Your responsibilities include leading technical discussions during pre-sales, translating customer requirements into actionable solutions, and communicating Mistral's technological advantages to diverse stakeholders.
You will bridge cutting-edge AI research with real-world enterprise applications, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with customer needs and Mistral's vision. You'll work closely with product managers, researchers, and engineers to integrate customer feedback into product development, while identifying emerging AI trends and championing best practices for fine-tuning, inference, and deployment.

Required: PhD or Master's in AI, ML, Computer Science, or related field; 7-8+ years AI/ML experience with 2+ years in technical leadership (Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, Solutions Architect); proven track record leading teams through complex AI projects from prototype to production; deep expertise in fine-tuning LLMs, advanced RAG, agentic systems, and NLP deployment at scale; proficiency in Python and PyTorch; strong software engineering skills (API design, backend/full-stack, system architecture); excellent technical communication abilities; fluent English.
Ideal candidates have open-source contributions (especially LLM/AI), customer-facing experience (Solutions Architect, Customer Engineer, Technical PM), and a track record of driving technical strategy and influencing product direction based on customer needs.
