Mistral AI is seeking a Technical Lead, Applied AI to drive technical strategy, execution, and delivery of complex AI solutions for enterprise customers. You will lead a team of Applied AI Engineers, ensuring successful deployment of Mistral AI products and development of high-impact, scalable AI use cases.
In this hybrid role based in New York, you will serve as the primary technical point of contact for strategic customers, guiding them through the entire lifecycle from pre-sales to post-implementation. You'll collaborate closely with research, product, and engineering teams to shape the future of Mistral's offerings.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver critical code for complex projects while staying hands-on in coding, reviewing, and optimizing AI solutions
- Lead technical teams of Applied AI Engineers, providing mentorship and guidance for deploying state-of-the-art GenAI applications
- Lead technical discussions during pre-sales, translating customer requirements into actionable solutions
- Design and oversee implementation of complex AI systems including fine-tuning, RAG, agentic workflows, and custom LLM applications
- Drive innovation by identifying emerging AI trends and championing best practices
- Work closely with product, research, and engineering teams to integrate customer feedback into product development
You bring 7-8+ years of AI/ML experience with at least 2+ years in a technical leadership role (Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, or Solutions Architect). You have a proven track record leading teams to deliver complex AI projects from prototyping to production across tech, finance, healthcare, or industrial automation.
Required expertise includes deep knowledge of fine-tuning LLMs, advanced RAG, agentic systems, and deploying NLP applications at scale. You're proficient in Python and PyTorch with modern AI frameworks (LangChain, Hugging Face). Strong software engineering skills in API design, backend/full-stack development, and system architecture are essential. You excel at technical communication with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ideally, you have contributed to open-source AI/LLM projects, have customer-facing experience (Solutions Architect, Customer Engineer, Technical Product Manager), and a track record of driving technical strategy based on customer needs and market opportunities.
