Mistral AI is seeking a Technical Lead, Applied AI to drive technical strategy and execution of complex AI solutions for enterprise customers. You will lead a team of Applied AI Engineers, ensuring successful deployment of Mistral's products and development of high-impact, scalable AI use cases.
In this hybrid IC/manager role, you will be hands-on with critical code delivery while also providing technical leadership and mentorship to your team. You'll act as the primary technical point of contact for strategic customers, guiding them through the entire lifecycle from pre-sales to post-implementation. You'll bridge cutting-edge AI research with real-world enterprise applications, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with customer needs and Mistral's vision.
Key responsibilities include: delivering critical code for complex projects while staying deeply involved in coding and optimization; leading technical teams of Applied AI Engineers with mentorship and best practices; leading technical discussions during pre-sales to translate requirements into solutions; designing and overseeing implementation of complex AI systems including fine-tuning, RAG, agentic workflows, and custom LLM applications; driving innovation by identifying emerging AI trends and championing best practices; and collaborating with product, research, and engineering teams to integrate customer feedback into product development.
You'll need 7-8+ years of AI/ML experience with at least 2+ years in a technical leadership role (Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, or Solutions Architect) focused on AI products or enterprise solutions. Deep expertise required in fine-tuning LLMs, advanced RAG, agentic systems, and deploying NLP applications at scale. Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, and modern AI frameworks (LangChain, Hugging Face) essential. Strong software engineering skills including API design, backend/full-stack development, and system architecture required. Excellent technical communication abilities to articulate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ideal candidates have contributed to open-source projects in the LLM/AI space, customer-facing experience (Solutions Architect, Customer Engineer, Technical Product Manager) with enterprise AI adoption focus, and a track record of driving technical strategy and influencing product direction. Master's or PhD in AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related field preferred. Fluent in English required.
