Mistral AI is seeking a Technical Lead, Applied AI to drive technical strategy and execution of complex AI solutions for enterprise customers. You will lead a team of Applied AI Engineers while remaining deeply hands-on, delivering critical code for complex projects and de-risking technical implementation.
Key responsibilities include: serving as the primary technical point of contact for strategic customers throughout their lifecycle (pre-sales to post-implementation); leading technical teams with mentorship and guidance on deploying state-of-the-art GenAI applications; designing and overseeing implementation of complex AI systems including fine-tuning, RAG, agentic workflows, and custom LLM applications; driving innovation by identifying emerging AI trends and championing best practices; and collaborating with product, research, and engineering teams to integrate customer feedback into product development.
You will bridge cutting-edge AI research with real-world enterprise applications, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with customer needs and Mistral's technological vision. The role emphasizes shipping results over process, direct feedback, low ego, and high standards in a collaborative, unstructured environment.
Required qualifications: PhD or Master's in AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or related field; 7-8+ years in AI/ML with 2+ years in technical leadership (Tech Lead, Engineering Manager, Staff Engineer, or Solutions Architect); proven track record leading teams on complex AI projects from prototyping to production; deep expertise in fine-tuning LLMs, advanced RAG, agentic systems, and deploying NLP applications at scale; proficiency in Python and PyTorch with modern AI frameworks (LangChain, Hugging Face); strong software engineering skills including API design, backend/full-stack development, and system architecture; excellent technical communication for diverse audiences.
Ideal candidates have contributed to open-source AI/LLM projects, customer-facing experience (Solutions Architect, Customer Engineer, Technical Product Manager) in enterprise AI adoption, and a track record of driving technical strategy and influencing product direction. Fluency in French and English required.
