Waabi, a leader in Physical AI and autonomous transportation, is seeking an Applied AI Security Engineer to establish guardrails and controls as the company scales its AI-native strategy. You'll take primary ownership of AI security across the organization, working with a small, sharp security team to ensure safe adoption of AI tools and integrations. Key responsibilities include auditing current AI tool usage and MCP integrations to identify where they touch sensitive systems, data, or credentials; designing and implementing layered guardrails including enterprise-level system prompts, scoped permissions, and sandboxing patterns; maintaining an inventory of MCP servers and AI-to-service connections with clear data access control models; partnering directly with users across the organization to embed secure-by-default patterns into AI-assisted workflows; evaluating new AI tools and integration requests to determine secure implementation paths; continuously testing and red-teaming guardrails to identify gaps; and documenting guidance and patterns accessible to non-security audiences. You'll need a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, professional software development experience with solid fundamentals in services, APIs, and permissions, hands-on experience using AI coding/productivity tools (Claude, Copilot, Gemini, or similar) in business-critical workflows, and working knowledge of core security concepts including least privilege, sandboxing, trust boundaries, and threat modeling basics. Strong communication skills and the ability to work as a partner with engineers are essential. Bonus qualifications include experience with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar tool-calling/agent-integration frameworks, exposure to prompt injection, jailbreaking, or other AI/LLM-specific attack techniques, and background in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or other safety-critical systems.
