Mistral is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to bridge cutting-edge AI research with real-world enterprise applications. You'll work as a customer-facing technical expert, deploying production AI solutions across high-stakes industries including finance, manufacturing, defense, healthcare, and the public sector.
In this role, you'll own end-to-end project execution, similar to a startup CTO. You'll help deploy GenAI applications with significant business impact, from consumer products to industrial use cases. Your responsibilities include:
- Deploying production use cases with measurable business impact across various industries
- Developing state-of-the-art GenAI applications and driving technological transformation with customers
- Collaborating with researchers, AI engineers, and product engineers on complex projects involving fine-tuning, advanced LLM applications, and open-source contributions
- Participating in pre-sales calls to understand client needs and provide technical guidance on Mistral's products and technologies
- Working with product and science teams to improve capabilities based on customer feedback
The Applied AI team operates with a startup mentality: low bureaucracy, high standards, direct feedback, and a focus on shipping results. You'll work in an unstructured, collaborative environment where the best idea wins regardless of seniority.
Required qualifications:
- 2+ years as a technical individual contributor (data scientist or software engineer) on AI-based products
- Proven experience implementing AI/ML products with APIs, back-end, and front-end interfaces
- Experience with fine-tuning LLMs, advanced RAG, or agentic use cases
- Deep understanding of ML and LLM concepts and algorithms
- Strong Python coding skills
- Fluent English and ability to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
Ideal candidates have contributed to open-source LLM projects, worked as a Customer/Forward Deployed/Sales Engineer or Solutions Architect, or have deep learning experience with PyTorch.
