Salary: USD 280,000 - 320,000 / annual
Anthropic's Beneficial Deployments team is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to accelerate scientific progress in life sciences by deploying Claude across the research ecosystem. You'll work embedded with flagship institutions like the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and The Allen Institute, partnering directly with their engineering teams to integrate AI into real scientific workflows.
Key responsibilities include: partnering deeply with life sciences research institutions to understand their workflows end-to-end and building production systems that integrate into their daily operations; developing reusable ecosystem infrastructure such as MCP servers for domain-specific data sources (genomics platforms, literature databases, experimental repositories), scientifically-grounded benchmarks, and agent skills that other institutions can adopt; identifying deployment challenges specific to life sciences (heterogeneous data, auditability requirements, prototype-to-trust gaps) and feeding findings back to product and research teams; and creating technical content and documentation that enables partners to self-serve and scale solutions globally.
You should have deep research experience in life sciences, biomedical research, or scientific computing—ideally with expertise in genomics, neuroscience, or drug discovery. You'll need hands-on experience building LLM-powered tools and applications, including prompting, context engineering, agent architectures, and evaluation frameworks. Demonstrated builder credibility from shipping production code as a software engineer, forward-deployed engineer, or technical founder is essential. A scrappy, mission-driven mentality is critical: you'll wear multiple hats, build from scratch, drive clarity in ambiguous situations, and do whatever it takes to further the mission of beneficial AI deployment.
This is a founding-team role on the Applied AI side of Beneficial Deployments, focused on bringing life sciences closer to the frontier of what's possible with AI. You'll have significant autonomy and impact, working at the intersection of cutting-edge AI research and real-world scientific impact.
