Salary: USD 180,000 - 230,000 / annual
Chariot is a fintech company building modern payment infrastructure for nonprofits and donors. The company has grown 1300% YoY and is scaling from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of nonprofits, with over $1.8B in annualized payment volume.
As an Applied AI Engineer, you will build Chariot's internal AI systems—the engine that enables the entire company to adopt cutting-edge AI-powered workflows and tools. Your mission is to rethink how work gets done fundamentally, not simply automate existing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate company strategy into automated workflows by working directly with senior leadership and cross-functional teams (GTM, Ops, Compliance).
- Build and ship real AI tools: write code, build AI agents, and create internal systems from scratch or scale existing ones.
- Power growth by building programmatic outbound tools and custom internal systems that enable teams to move faster as the company scales.
- Challenge the status quo: question whether processes or tools should exist at all, and prototype what's possible with AI-first thinking.
- Deploy and orchestrate agents in production that work reliably and improve continuously with real data and real users—not just demos.
You'll work in a fast-moving, founder-heavy team (>30% are former founders) in NYC, with in-person presence Monday–Thursday and work-from-home Fridays. The role offers the rare opportunity to work on 0-to-1 products and shape the future of online philanthropy.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in Engineering, Growth Product Management, or technical RevOps.
- Proven ability to build and orchestrate AI agents that work well and improve in production (not just prototypes).
- Fluency with modern AI stack tools: OpenAI, Claude Managed Agents, Claude Code, and understanding of architectures like Thin Harness and Fat Skills.
- Strong technical foundation: write production code in Python, JavaScript, or SQL; comfortable with APIs.
- Bias toward shipping: deliver v1 today, iterate tomorrow.
- Owner mentality and self-starter mindset.
- Based in NYC or willing to relocate. This is an in-person role.
