Arena Intelligence is a platform for evaluating how AI models perform in real-world scenarios. Founded by researchers from UC Berkeley's SkyLab, the company works with leading AI labs, enterprises, and independent researchers to provide transparent, rigorous, human-centered evaluations of frontier AI systems. Tens of millions of users rely on Arena each month to assess how models handle actual workflows in areas like agentic coding, creative generation, and professional productivity.
This role combines customer partnership with hands-on engineering. You will own 5–15 active relationships with leading AI research labs, serving as their primary point of contact at Arena. You'll partner directly with their researchers and product teams to integrate models, run evaluations, and deliver high-quality results. Your responsibilities include driving consistent delivery across onboarding, data and product releases, co-launches, and rapidly unblocking unexpected issues. You'll also own a key process improvement or automation initiative—such as streamlining model onboarding flows, building customer data insights tools, or developing delivery tooling.
On the engineering side, you'll translate customer feedback and research direction into concrete product ideas and ship pragmatic solutions that push the frontier for your customers. You'll work across the full stack (frontend and backend) to solve real, high-impact problems for cutting-edge AI teams. Some of what you build may eventually scale into Arena's Data or Applied ML stack. You'll also help expand strategic accounts through trust, execution, and sharp technical judgment.
Arena is a small, mission-driven team of researchers, academics, builders, and creatives from UC Berkeley, Google, Stanford, and DeepMind. The culture values transparency, trust, craftsmanship, curiosity, and impact over hierarchy.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of software engineering experience with strong fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, system design)
- Production experience in TypeScript and modern web frameworks
- Hands-on experience integrating LLM provider APIs, including streaming responses
- Comfort moving across frontend and backend; willingness to dig in wherever the problem is
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and CI/CD workflows
- Strong problem-solving instincts and ability to operate in ambiguity
- Clear, concise communication skills; ability to explain complex technical ideas to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
- Customer-first mindset and genuine desire to work closely with multiple stakeholders
