Vibrant Planet is a climate tech company building cloud-based, AI-driven platforms that help land managers, utilities, and insurers reduce wildfire risk through scenario planning, decision support, and treatment outcome detection. The company combines fire science expertise (via subsidiary Pyrologix) with modern software to address one of the most pressing climate challenges.
As an Application Software Engineer, you will build full-stack features in a Elixir, Phoenix LiveView, and PostgreSQL stack. You'll work on applications that present wildfire risk analysis and mitigation planning tools—combining statistical dashboards, interactive charts, and geospatial map layers. You'll collaborate closely with product, design, data engineering, infrastructure, science, and operations teams to ship high-quality features that directly impact community safety and ecosystem health.
The role is ideal for engineers who thrive in startup environments and can navigate loosely defined problems by collaborating with stakeholders to resolve ambiguities. The company particularly values engineers with a second area of expertise—whether in ecology, forestry, fire science, or related natural sciences—who can bridge technical and domain knowledge.
Vibrant Planet is backed by leading climate and resilience investors including Grantham Foundation, Earthshot, Elemental Excelerator, Ecosystem Integrity Fund, Cisco, and Halogen Ventures.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping full-stack web applications
- Hands-on experience turning designs into responsive, accessible UIs with close collaboration with product and design partners
- Strong proficiency with SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL experience is a bonus)
- Comfortable working in a fully remote, fast-paced startup environment
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
- At least one of the following:
* Experience building interactive web maps with working knowledge of geospatial fundamentals (projections, spatial data formats like Geopackage, GeoTIFF)
* Domain expertise in natural science/resource fields (forestry, ecology, remote sensing, fire science, meteorology, or related)
* Experience with Elixir and front-end frameworks, preferably Phoenix LiveView
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience generating, serving, and consuming raster and vector tilesets (Tippecanoe, MBTiles/PMTiles)
- Experience with PostGIS or other spatial database tooling
