Salary: USD 100,000 - 130,000 / annual
Firestorm is a defense technology company building xCell, containerized deployable manufacturing units that combine advanced additive and traditional manufacturing for field deployment. As an Application Engineer in Additive Manufacturing, you will be the critical bridge between customer needs and reliable production on fielded systems.
You will own the end-to-end process of turning warfighter part requirements into validated, repeatable manufacturing processes. Your responsibilities span application development (taking customer specifications through DFM/DFAM to first article across MJF, FDM, metal additive, and CNC), process and materials engineering (developing and qualifying parameters, materials, and work instructions), and field deployment support (training operators, troubleshooting production issues in CONUS and OCONUS environments).
You will engage directly with warfighters and program customers to understand mission-critical applications, support xCell deployments in the field, own first-article inspection and part qualification, and drive process-level fixes when fielded systems underperform. You'll feed real application and field data back to systems, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering teams to inform the next generation of xCell capabilities.
This is a hands-on role with high ownership mentality—you close loops independently, troubleshoot hardware and process problems in dynamic environments where speed matters, and hold yourself and others to high standards. You'll travel 15-25% to customer and field sites.
Required: Bachelor's in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials Engineering or related field; U.S. citizenship (ITAR); 1+ years hands-on MJF experience; 3+ years manufacturing environment experience; DfAM fluency; CAD proficiency (SolidWorks preferred); ability to obtain/maintain DoD security clearance.
Preferred: Defense background, FDM/SLA/SLS/metal additive or CNC experience, materials qualification, GD&T, PPAP-style inspection, customer training/support experience, PLM and quality systems familiarity.
