ICEYE is seeking an AOCS (Attitude and Orbit Control Systems) Engineer to join its spacecraft analysis and control team. You will work with a multidisciplinary AOCS domain responsible for developing and maintaining all systems that control spacecraft attitude and orbit for a constellation of 40+ Earth-observation satellites in orbit.
In this role, you will be involved in the complete lifecycle of AOCS systems—from design phases through maintenance of existing systems. Your responsibilities include analyzing and improving on-orbit performance, defining verification procedures, and leading anomaly investigations to ensure satellites maintain precise attitude control and optimal orbital performance.
Key responsibilities:
- Analyze and improve on-orbit performance of AOCS components across the constellation
- Perform performance analyses and trade studies to evaluate different ADCS and propulsion hardware solutions
- Lead market studies and designs for AOCS components and introduce new components following established processes
- Define, execute, and maintain verification procedures for AOCS components
- Lead or participate in AOCS anomaly investigations involving engineers from multiple domains
- Propose, evaluate, and implement process improvements affecting the spacecraft constellation
- Interface with satellite operations, radar, mechanical, electronic, and manufacturing teams
Required qualifications:
- BS/MS in Physics, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar field
- 2-4 years of experience designing, operating, or testing AOCS or space equipment
- Strong understanding of AOCS fundamentals: rigid body motion, differential equations, coordinate transformations, feedback loops, state estimation, and basic orbital dynamics
- Deep knowledge of sensors and actuators (reaction wheels, magnetorquers, star trackers, gyroscopes, magnetometers, GNSS)
- Proficiency in Python, C++, or Matlab
- Working knowledge of Git
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Experience working with electronic laboratory hardware
Preferred qualifications include experience in multi-disciplinary environments, flight dynamics software (STK, GMAT), GNSS systems, and C++. The role requires first-principles thinking, intellectual firepower, passion for problem-solving, and ownership mentality. Employment is subject to applicable security screening.
