Tripadvisor is seeking a Software Engineer II (Android) to join its fast-growing mobile team within Tripadvisor Experiences. This is an Android-focused, full-stack role where you'll primarily develop Android applications with occasional backend projects. The team operates in a remote-first model with periodic in-person gatherings at office hubs in Oxford or London (within commutable distance, typically 1–2 hours).
You'll work with a modern tech stack including Kotlin, Coroutines, Jetpack Compose, and GraphQL in a modular, clean-architecture layout following MVVM patterns. Your responsibilities include writing production code, collaborating closely with product managers and designers to define feature specifications, and taking ownership of the full software engineering lifecycle—from design and implementation through QA and maintenance. The team releases code to production every few days with a daily release cycle.
You'll be a versatile problem-solver working on diverse technical challenges, touching code at every level of the stack. While the primary focus is Android app development, you'll have opportunities to work on backend microservices and collaborate with engineering groups worldwide. The environment emphasizes getting things done in a fun, friendly setting where engineers are encouraged to learn and grow.
Required qualifications include at least 3 years of commercial software development experience, proven Android app development skills, familiarity with reactive programming in native mobile platforms, and the ability to break down complex problems into simple solutions. You should demonstrate a global-first mindset, high-quality communication skills, and a willingness to adopt new technologies. Experience with mobile web and backend technologies is beneficial. The role values demonstrated ability to use AI tools to improve efficiency and decision-making in day-to-day work.
