Monzo is a fintech company on a mission to make money work for everyone, serving over 11 million customers with personal and business bank accounts, savings, investments, pensions, and credit products. The Mobile Engineering team has ~40 Android engineers and is hiring product-focused engineers to evolve the native mobile app. You'll work in a small, autonomous product squad alongside iOS engineers, backend engineers, product designers, product managers, QA testers, and data scientists. Rather than building specific features, your team owns an overall company goal, giving you impact on both what and how you build. Mobile engineers work on everything from personal banking products to customer support tools, with a dedicated mobile platform squad supporting faster iteration across the company. The Android app is 100% Kotlin, built using MVVM and Coordinators, and modularized by product feature. The tech stack includes RxJava, Retrofit, Moshi, Dagger, Coroutines, Room, and Compose for the design system. Code reviews happen via GitHub Pull Requests with comprehensive testing: unit tests for ViewModels and logic, Compose screen tests with Happo snapshot testing, and Espresso for flow testing via CI/CD. You'll report to an engineering manager who meets with you every 1-2 weeks to support your growth and development. The team meets weekly as an Android discipline to discuss tools, techniques, and improvements to codebase and processes. Monzo values learning and has engineers from diverse backgrounds—non-graduates, non-CS majors, people from large companies and startups alike. The role is hybrid, 3 days per week in the Barcelona office.
