Salary: USD 121,700 - 152,100 / annual

Mercury is a fintech platform providing banking, treasury, and financial workflow solutions for startups and technology companies. The AML Investigations team is responsible for detecting suspicious activity, conducting thorough investigations, and preventing bad actors from using the platform. As an AML Investigator III, you will be a core member of a growing investigations team focused on protecting Mercury, its customers, and the broader financial ecosystem from illegal and unauthorized activities. Your responsibilities will include: - Reviewing AML and financial crime alerts in transaction monitoring queues and taking appropriate action - Investigating and responding to Requests for Information (RFIs) from partner banks, delivering clear and well-supported AML reviews of customer account activity - Contacting users to gather information on account usage and transactions - Collaborating with internal team members and external partners to assess information received from users - Making account decisions, including locking or closing accounts when necessary - Documenting investigative findings and escalating suspicious activity to partners for Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) consideration - Providing input on implementing new transaction monitoring rules and tuning existing ones - Developing expertise in expected activity patterns for different user types - Investigating tools and processes to improve efficiency - Writing clear documentation on current processes and training future team members You will balance a keen eye for risk with excellent user experience, working through transaction monitoring queues while helping build out case management technology and processes. The role requires learning how a wide range of businesses operate and applying that knowledge to improve processes and product. REQUIREMENTS: - Experience identifying money laundering, detecting fraud, or other financial crimes in banking, fintech, or financial services through both vendor and in-house developed transaction monitoring rules - Fluency in bank transaction types including ACH, check, debit card, credit card, and wire transfers (domestic and international) - Understanding of the business banking landscape with familiarity with international activity and ownership structures - Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex concepts with clarity and efficiency - Empathy and understanding when communicating with users - Ability to manage relationships with external parties with confidence and kindness - Strong organizational skills and attention to detail - Problem-solving mindset focused on making teams, products, and processes more efficient - Curiosity about the US banking system, startups, and ecommerce companies - Interest in automation and process improvement
